New York, January 24, 2008 – Bodhi Art is pleased to announce the first solo exhibition of Manisha Parekh in New York. The exhibition, featuring fourteen works continues the process of creating the artist’s personal, non verbal vocabulary; one that focuses on space and matter.

Manisha Parekh’s oeuvre does not lend itself to gender and cultural categorizations. The artist deliberately declines to insert obvious meaning in her work, simultaneously giving form both intention and an objective. It is present in this body of work with an awareness of the moment of creation and of Art that has come before. Each layer and the process of construction is made visible by the use of material that is raw yet unsaturated. The content of the work is intrinsic within it, in its simplicity, labor and absence of established symbols.

Manisha Parekh earned Master’s degrees in Painting from M.S. University, Baroda and from the Royal College of Art, London. She is a recipient of the Heinrich- Boll fellowship in Bonn (1994-95), Cite Internationale des Arts, Paris (1992) and the Erasmus Award- Hochschule der Kunste, Berlin (1993). Few of her recent exhibitions include shows at Sakshi Gallery, Mumbai and Berkeley Square Gallery, London, 2006, Nature Morte, New Delhi, 2004. Her works are included in Royal College of Art, U.K.; Davey & Chester Herwitz Collection, U.S.A; Heinrich-Boll-Stiftung, Germany; Robert Lodar Collection, U.K., among others.

Manisha Parekh lives and works in New Delhi.
